Richard Skipper Celebrates! New York Theatre reviews
Good show
The Richard Skipper Celebrates! show was not something I was overly excited to see, but I took my 15 yo son. In college in California, we listened to them all the time, and perhaps I have become bored with them. They put on a good show, BUT Flea and Chad pretty much kicked A%%. Anthony seemed like he was still hampered by the foot surgery and just kind of went through the motions. The new guitarist is no Frusciante and appeared to try too hard; at times, it looked like he was having a seizure. The sound was excellent.
We arrived just after the show started and grabbed seats to the side of the stage, which were excellent. My son got to see what goes on during a show (i.e. Chad broke 3 snare heads during the course of the evening). I worked concert security while in school, so it was cool to let him see what we saw regularly at work.
We blew off the opening act, knowing they would be poor. I don't understand why RHCP and Tool have opening acts like Santigold and Yob that most have not heard of. Sure, it gets bands exposure, but why have someone in a different genre who is mediocre at best, especially with the high cost of tickets these days!
